Walleye fishing has been good on the upper Potomac River this spring. All sizes of fish are represented in the population and the number of juveniles (~ 12 inches) bodes well for the next several years. Crankbaits or jigs have been the best producers depending on the day and river conditions. Freshwater Fisheries staff recently collected walleye brood fish for the Manning Warmwater Hatchery. The young walleye produced by these fish will be used to stock the upper Potomac and other suitable waters throughout Maryland to supplement natural reproduction.
