Region: Central
Location: Susquehanna River at Conowingo Dam
This 52.3 lb flathead catfish was caught by Jordan Newell last year at Conowingo Dam (2019). This is one of three fish that Jordan has caught in the 48-55 lb range, all below Conowingo Dam! This is basically the unofficial state record for the flathead catfish in the Invasive species category. A local NRP officer was notified, and this was witnessed by several other anglers; all of which would provide testament to confirm catch. However, in Maryland, all state record fish must be inspected by a state DNR biologist and weighed on a certified scale. Therefore, this fish can not be ruled as a state record, and the flathead catfish category in the invasive species division remains vacant with a 40 lb minimum weight.
