A Blackwater Saturday

Type: Nontidal
Region: Eastern
Location: Blackwater

I hit the road early on Saturday, 5/16/2020, starting the drive to Blackwater at 3:30 am and arriving a little before six.

I met my friend, Mike Brupbacher, at the ramp, we launched our kayaks and headed west. We found that the fish are staging up at the mouth of the feeder creeks. I believe feeding before they spawn. The female fish were full of eggs. We were catching on 1/4-1/8 oz jigs with plastics, white paddle or jerk bait. They were also eating white paddle tail with an orange tail.

The bite was slow at first, bass mostly. When the tide started coming in the snakehead moved in. Prior to that they were sitting along the wind blown shoreline just outside the feeder creeks. We caught 10 snakehead 7 bass and a white perch between Mike B and I. Zach Ditmars showed up later in the day with a few friends. He caught 6 snakehead and 2 bass.

The day couldnt had been nicer. As always it was a lot of fun.
