Stream flows and weather conditions were perfect on Saturday as my dog and I took a long hike along a state forest brook trout stream in Garrett County. Stopping to fish the best looking spots, most produced a brook trout on the first decent presentation. I was using a 7 1/2 foot three weight and still sometimes had to use the "sling-shot" method in the tight spots to get the flies in the perfect drift. Most fish took the bead-head caddis larvae but a few did take the elk hair caddis that I was using as an indicator fly. While most of the trout were small, some of them still retained their beautiful fall spawning colors and made for a great day of fishing.
