On Saturday June 20th my father, Nick Kuba, and I went on a fishing trip out of Ocean City on our 24 foot Proline for a day of sharking in the Fingers. Late afternoon, we got the surprise of a lifetime when I caught and released a juvenile Great White shark.
DNR Comment: A person may fish for white sharks with rod and reel, but must release the fish immediately, with minimal injury and without removing it from the water. As these anglers are also doing, use non-offset, corrodible, circle hooks that are required except when fishing with flies or artificial lures. Learn how to identify sharks by going to our shark web page for more information. Remember,
if you don't know, let it go. If you hook up with any shark that is not going to be kept, keep it in the water and release it using a dehooking tool or cut the line, minimizing trailing gear. Anglers fishing for sharks are required to have at least one device capable of quickly cutting either the leader or the hook. Anglers targeting sharks in federal waters must have a shark endorsement on their HMS permit.
