My buddy, Andy, and I headed out on the bay this morning (7/16) hoping to fish the Middle Grounds for cobia. But once we left the safety of the Patuxent River it became evident that the wind was going to be a problem for a run down the bay.
So, we fished the river for an hour or so. We were using light tackle and jigs for seatrout by casting our baits at the mouth of St. Leonard and Cuckold Creeks. Although, we only came away with one undersized rockfish. We wrapped things up and headed home.
I was feeling unfulfilled so I grabbed some freshwater gear and headed to a local pond for some largemouth bass. But, with it being two oclock in the afternoon and the heat of the day and heatwave, the possibility of catching was in doubt. I started dropping a wacky worm in any shade I could find.
I did replace my wacky with a Crme Bait plastic worm. I wanted to see if I could catch bass on an old school bait. It worked! I caught a few of the bass on them. After fishing for two hours in the heat I did catch five largemouth bass.
