Snakehead are a great species to target to give striped bass (rockfish) a break during hot summer months on the bay. Beth Versak, a DNR striped bass biologist, caught this nice 24.5 inch, 4.5 lb. northern snakehead on Sunday, August 9 on an artificial frog lure. She was fishing an opening in a lilypad field at high tide, above some milfoil on Mattawoman Creek.
As always, we ask that anglers kill and eat snakehead since they are an invasive species that impacts native fish in Maryland.
