From May 1 to June 5, 92 Bluefin Tuna Tagged in Maryland!

Type: Ocean
Region: Coastal
Location: Ocean City

The average length of these fish was a little over 37 inches. We do not generally witness this much activity in the bluefin tuna fishery until late June. By the same date last year, four bluefin tuna were reported. Previously, the most fish reported by June 5 was in 2006 with 25 fish landed in May. All other years were still behind our current season for landings by that date. According to fishing reports, the bluefin are plentiful inshore of the canyons. Two white marlin have been released to date. We have not received any completed catch cards for bill fish in 2011.
