I have to say that yesterdays afternoon and todays weather was/is great. I fished Mill Creek yesterday. But the going was tough after the rain. I caught four perch a red drum and five bycatch rockfish. The fish were all caught on a beetle spin with a 1/8 oz jig and white Mr Twister plastic grub.
Today I headed up to fish Lake Collusion trying to avoid catching any other bycatch striped bass seeing the season is closed through August 31st. The lake is freshwater at its upper end and brackish water near the beach. The lake is located in Chesapeake Ranch Estates subdivision across from Seahorse beach.
I started out casting a topwater frog, 1/4 paddle tail jig and a chatter bait. All without any takers. The water was very dirty so I switched up to the same beetle spin bait I used on Wednesday while fishing Mill Creek. I also figured that the fish may be feeding and sitting at the upper end of the lake where it is feed by a small creek. I find that the moving water coming into a lake or pond at times creates cleaner water along laydowns and the shoreline. And bait fish will congregate in those spots because of higher oxygen levels and cooler water. Bait fish equate to predator fish, then up the food chain to me. Ha!
Sure enough, they were there. I found out by catching seven largemouth bass within an hour.
Fun two days.
