Piney Point Kind of Day

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Piney Point

I fished out of Piney Point today, getting on the water at 7:30. I went there after a buddy told me that he and a friend were catching a lot of perch off the grass and a few red drum too. He said that they caught a speckled trout too. That got me thinking about Western Shore trout, so I decided to fish there today. (8/25)

I worked the shoreline, looking for trout, up to the Ruddy Duck restaurant with not much luck. I ended up off of Cherryfield Point thinking I might find trout up that way. But with only two perch for my effort I made my way back to St George Island. I started casting into the shade of piers with a beetle spin and started catching big perch. Several were 12 inches and most 10 to 11 inches. But, I quickly got bored, thinking I could do better fishing the channel near the bridge. I caught a 14" flounder and two speckled trout. Catching these fish on a 1/2oz jig with a pink and orange four inch paddle tail.

Great day!
