Fishing Out Brood Stock

Type: Nontidal
Region:
Location:

The youth chapter of the MBFN fished out largemouth bass from hatchery ponds on 4 June. The bass were in the ponds to produce young that will later be stocked to Marylands waterways. Anglers (all under 18) helped us by removing the adult bass and putting them in a hatchery truck. This year, anglers also helped us learn something about hooking injuries and bass. For each bass they caught, they tallied the bait type, type of hook, and location where the hook hit (gut or mouth). So, it was a fun day of fishing and science for everyone. All of the largemouth bass were released alive to the Potomac River, where they came from. Joseph W. Love, Ph.D. Tidal Bass Manager
