I went fishing on the bay for a few hours Monday, 10/19. Catching just one small rockfish on a jig. Then, while loading up the kayak, I checked my email. Lo and behold, the state had just stocked Put and Take trout at Calvert Cliffs State Park. I headed home to switch out my gear and then I drove over to the park.
I arrived at the park a little after 3:00. I grabbed my fly rod out of the Jeep and headed to the pond. I was pleasantly surprised that there were just two other anglers fishing. Both were fly anglers too. I started casting and catching right away. Catching rainbow trout and bluegill.
I caught six rainbow trout and three bluegill on a barbless bead head flashback pheasant tail nymph. Losing another four trout too. I released all the fish to be caught another day.
Great surprise and a fun afternoon!
