On 11/5, I fished Mill Creek. I was looking for striped bass, largemouth bass and snakehead. I started targeting striped bass along the channel markers near the mouth of Mill Creek. Trolling 1/2 oz jigs with 5 electric chicken paddle tail plastics. It wasnt long and I had the first fish on board. After catching nine fish from 15 inches to 21 inches I headed up the creek.
I paddled to the headwaters where there is a shallow tidal lake. The average depth of the lake varies from two feet to a high tide depth of four foot. Once I got there, I got out of the kayak fished and from shore. To fish the lake in a kayak or canoe youd need to portage your boat or drag it across rip-rap. There is a narrow channel that flows from the lake. In this channel you can catch largemouth bass by casting topwater baits or small spinner baits.
In the past Ive caught carp, rockfish, bass and snakehead out of the lake. Today I caught a single largemouth bass on a small spinner bait. I then headed back down to the mouth of the creek catching an additional rockfish on the paddle down. Once I got to where I caught the fish earlier in the day I caught another rockfish.
In all I caught nine rockfish and a largemouth bass. It was a beautiful day to be out on the water.
