Back to the river after a few productive but inching trips around the lake. The weather turned out to be far superior than the forecast. Not really a surprise. We were very happy with the carryover from our new wacky bait approach. As usual our captain had things planned pretty well; down to the riffles below Pack Horse ford to hit the big ones and then, after we pulled them all out, up the river we go for the drift down stream doing rather well on the Maryland side. Then we ended the day where we started and amazingly caught a few on top water with a buzz bait in the middle of the day. If you discount the crappies, without disrespect to such a co-operative finned creature, we did better than on the lake. Not so many huge fish but many more scrappy smallies than largemouth.
