Retro Fishing on St Marys Lake

Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: St. Mary's Lake

I fished over at St Marys Lake today, Wed, Nov 25 catching 4 largemouth bass, and one each of pickerel, crappie and bluegill.

While drinking coffee this morning I went through a short list of options (those in my head and not set in concrete) on where to fish today. First I didnt want to drive any distance today, the day before Thanksgiving and all. Scratch Smithville Lake.

So, maybe fly fishing at St Marys? But there is limited casting space from the shoreline, it can be done but I wasnt feeling it. Then I thought, hey! I grabbed the Mitchell- Garcia 300 on a 6.5 Garcia Conolon rod and a handful of Mepps spinners. Retro fishing! Lets see what happens I thought. I put on my chest waders and headed the mile down Dam Rd. Stepping into the lake once there and taking a cast, it wasnt long before I hooked up with the first fish. I cast a #3 Mepps and I never needed to change the bait.

It was a perfect Fall day of fishing.
