Shoreline Pickerel with Ethan

Type: Tidal
Region: Central
Location: Chase Creek off the Severn River

I did some shoreline fishing with my son Ethan (13) over the Thanksgiving weekend, mostly targeting pickerel, but still running into some striped bass too, in Chase Creek off the Severn River. In this spot, he and I seem to catch more fish on a simple yellow or white Mr. Twister than any other lure, on a plain 1/8 oz lead head or tipped on a shad dart. We also go down to a lighter 1/16 oz lead head in some shallow water situations if wind and current are light. We catch pickerel and stripers on this small jig during winter and white perch, spotted sea trout, croaker, stripers and snapper blues during summer, all on the same cheap lure. The biggest fish was Ethan's nice 20.5 inch pickerel - he hooked it and swung it up on the bulkhead like a Boss TV Bassmaster, no net and no assist!

Feeling thankful to be with the kids this Thanksgiving.
