My First Trout and Our Combined Catch

Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: Myrtle Grove Lake

My husband, Czarlite, took me on a date to go fishing with him at Myrtle Grove Lake on the afternoon of January 7, 2021. There, I caught my first trout ever and then reached my 5 trout limit before the sun set!

I caught all of my rainbow trout on an 1/8 oz silver Kastmaster spoon tied to 6 lb fluorocarbon line. I was casting from the shore at angles. I was reeling pretty slow, but steady enough not to get snagged much. My husband managed 3 rainbow trout himself. I keep reminding him that he caught fewer than I did. (LOL!)

He used the same lure and also used Gulp minnows to catch his fish. He posted a YouTube video of our experience. Here is the link if you are interested: https://youtu.be/QdRZZ7fp5U0

This trip was a great diversion from the day to day challenges we face during this pandemic. It also felt safe since we were outdoors and all the anglers were spread so far apart. Our family enjoyed eating the trout afterwards. They were delicious!

Thank you for all you do in maintaining our parks and promoting good fishing. I look forward to defeating my husband at his own game again soon.
