I went catfishing on December 1st on the Susquehanna River and caught a bunch of blue catfish again. I got 17 of them with the biggest fish weighing 29 lbs!
DNR NOTE: This is a very impressive catch! The Department thanks John for removing these invasive blue catfish from Maryland's waterways. They are fun to catch and very good to eat! Anglers should also be aware that DNR biologists are running an ongoing tagging project on blue catfish in the Patuxent River. If you catch a tagged fish, please note the tag number and phone number on the tag, release the fish with tag and antennae intact, and call the phone number on the tag. When you call the phone number, please report the location where the fish was caught. The tag and other information are shown on the flyer at dnr.maryland.gov/fisheries/Documents/CatfishTagging_Study_Sign.pdf
For more information on this tagging study, please see this press release from May 2021: news.maryland.gov/dnr/2021/05/01/tracking-the-blue-cat-learning-to-beat-the-invasive-fish/
