Personal Striped Bass on the Potomac River

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Potomac River

I was fishing the mouth of the Potomac River using a 5 oz jig and 20 lb test line on light tackle rod. I enjoy jigging in the fall out of Point Lookout. I landed a 49" 40 lb striped bass (verified at the Tackle Box Lexington Park). This fish broke my net but, I still managed to get him in the boat. It was certainly a record catch for me!

This was the biggest fish I have ever landed using light tackle equipment. Wow !!!!!!

DNR NOTE: The striped bass season in the lower mainstem Potomac River (PRFC jurisdiction) is open until the end of December. However, keep in mind that the tidal Potomac River tributaries on the Maryland side of the river are closed. For more information see prfc.us/pdfs/BLUE-SHEET.pdf
