Blue Catfish Blitz at Sandy Point

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Sandy Point

On Easter morning, I went to the beach at Sandy Point to photograph the infamous container ship Everforward as it was being towed to its anchorage area south of the Bay Bridge. While there I met two avid readers of the fishing report - Jiro Akiyama and Bao Nguyen

They proceeded to catch several blue catfish from the beach up to 30 lbs and had their cooler filled by 10 am, using cut menhaden chunks with 3 oz sinkers and circle hooks. Due to the strong current and NW winds , it was hard to hold bottom with 3 ounces, so I would suggest bringing a few 5 and 6 oz sinkers if you fish here.

Thanks for removing these invasive and good eating fish from the Bay!
