Earth Day Hickory Shad

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Octoraro Creek

I caught and released an 18" hickory shad on Earth Day, April 22, 2022. That day I was fishing the Susquehanna River at the mouth of Octoraro Creek. The water was high and muddy, but the shad were resting there out of the fast current. They were biting green darts. I caught 8 shad, in the 18 inch range on light tackle, That is, a 6' St Croix light action rod paired with a Shimano Sedona 1000 reel spooled with 10 lb monofilament line.

This Catch and Release Award will be my 7th species. My goal is to submit 3 more species in the Fish Maryland program, hopefully this year!

Tim received a FishMaryland certificate for this catch. Congratulations!
