I fished at Gilbert Run (Lake Wheatley) 4/29 with my friend Julian. We caught 13 bass, 8 crappie and 3 bluegill and a trout on small jigs and spinner baits.
I saw a guy catching a basket full of crappie fly fishing from the shoreline and another angler catch his limit of Put-and-Take trout by the dam near the playground. He was casting a chartreuse rooster tail and using Berkeley Power Bait. I caught a trout too, but on a small beetle spin.
This lake is full of crappie. Simply let the wind push your boat (kayak) across the lake while you cast small chartreuse jigs or vertically jig small jigs off the bottom. What a fun day.
