I was on the fence about fishing Mill Creek yesterday morning (5/23) but the weather outlook for the week wasnt looking good. So I took the opportunity to hit the water.
I didnt head out early either because of the wind. My chance of a topwater bite in the waves was minimal. So I got on the water at 7:00am. The water temperature was as low as 68 up to 72 degrees, and the water was clear. The weather was cloudy early on, but then the sun broke out and the wind picked up, I got off the water at 10:30 am.
I ended up catching 13 striped bass on 1/2oz jig w/4 white and chartreuse paddle tail and a white jerk bait. I had two keepers in the group, a 19 & 20. The fish came off docks and channel edges on the creek. And yeah, I cant forget the cownose ray. The bane of my existence.
P.s. I went down to the community pier with my grandson Wyatt for a cast. I asked if he wanted to catch a fish. He said no, he didnt want to stink. I talked him into going down, all he needed to do was reel the fish in, he agreed. Third cast he was reeling in his first striped bass! Fun!!
