On the first of June I fished on the Mattawoman Creek out of Mattingly Park. I went looking for snakehead but could only find blue catfish. I started out by casting topwater baits, swim baits into the lily pads and arrowhead plants. I could only muster up a largemouth bass. Catching it on a Snakehead Outlawz Slater Ratz. I did have a small snakehead take a chatter bait, seeing a school of fish feeding I took the cast, but it took the bait short.
I then changed gears and figured Id catch at least a few fish, blue catfish. Casting a Zman Texas Eye Finness with a 4 Kietec Sexy Shad paddle tail did the trick. I ended up catching five fish before I left due to the heat, I believe it got up to 91 degrees around the time I left. I could have continued catching but the heat was unpleasant. The blue catfish were in the main channel of the creek, casting or simply trolling a bait did the trick. I fished the upper end of the creek, up near 225. These fish are everywhere.
