Some Fishing 6/8/22

Type: Nontidal and Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Smith Creek, St. Mary's Lake

Yesterday morning (6/8) I fished Smith Creek out of the St Inigoes launch looking for speckled trout. But I could only find a keeper striped bass on a jerk bait and a white perch that ate a beetle spin. After a few hours I decided to wrap it up and head over to St Marys Lake.

Getting on the lake a little before noon, I turned the kayak towards the spillway. There I casted a small square billed crankbait along the rip rap, catching a bass. I worked my towards the dam and caught another couple of bass.

I then made my way along the dam following the rip rap, casting my bait, but with little luck. At the end of the dam I fished along the shoreline catching a small bass on a wacky rig. Making my way along I noted bass feeding on the surface. I cast my wacky rig into the mayhem. I caught an additional three bass on wacky rigs. I then started to cast crankbaits catching two pickerel, a 25 inch and a 23 inch. I caught a small yellow perch and a couple of bluegill too. In all I caught 11 bass, two pickerel, two bluegill and a yellow perch on St Marys.

I left the lake at 3:00 when the wind changed direction and picked up.
