I was catching several yellow perch and largemouth bass at Piney Run in Carroll County in the rain on Saturday June 11th. As I was unhooking a largemouth I was startled by this slithering fellow looking up at me about a foot from my feet. I yelled and it retreated quickly away. Surprisingly it came back about five minutes later, out of curiosity I guess. Im not a snake expert but I think it was just a northern water snake as its markings were bulb shaped and not hour-glass shaped like a copperhead. I stayed in my spot with the snake for about five and saw that it was not leaving, so I cut my fishing short. A good day none-the-less.
