Mirror Carp

Type: Nontidal
Region: Western
Location:

I recently caught this 15 year old, 27.5 lb mirror carp in Western MD.

Note from DNR: The age of this mirror carp, and other fish species, can be estimated based on their weight and length using conversion tables found online. However, the more accurate and precise way to determine the age of a fish is by direct examination of certain age structures on the fish, including the scales, otoliths (ear stones), operculum (bony gill plate), and dorsal fin spines. Mirror carp have been known to reach weights of over 50 lbs and ages of more than 50 years.
