Mattawoman Catfish

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Mattawoman Creek

I woke at 3:30 on Monday 7/11 and started to think about where I would fish. I drew a blank. I then picked up the computer to work on a Paddlers Edge article. How to catch catfish on artificial baits. Oh wait! Maybe a little research!

I finished the draft, set it aside, then headed to Mattawoman. Launching out of Mattingly Park. I headed up stream to where the creek was slightly shallower and not as wide. Once there I started to troll a white chatterbait to locate fish. It wasnt long before I was hooked up to a blue catfish. Casting and trolling various baits landed me three blue catfish, a channel catfish, a white catfish. I also caught a perch on a crankbait and a pickerel on a swim bait.

It was a beautiful day to be on the water.
