Bluefish Tuesday

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Southern
Location: St. Jerome Creek

I headed out to fish for speckled trout on Tuesday out of St Jeromes Creek. Unfortunately, I had no luck finding any.

Snagging a cownose ray and losing my bait was the start of the day. Then a small white perch ate a paddle tail. Then I entered the bay and headed along the shoreline casting 1/4 and 1/2 oz jigs with three and four inch paddle tails hunting for speckled trout.

I saw the birds off in the distance. At first I had thought they were following the crabbers boat but soon realized they were feeding on bait. I hightailed it out to where they were and started casting the same 1/2oz jig and paddle tail I had been fishing with. After five tails being bitten off I switched to a white jerk bait I had rigged up on another rod. I caught fish on the jerk bait, the jig and paddle tail and a hair jig too. I caught a small flounder on a paddle tail jig too.

I gave them up when the bite slowed a bit, heading back in to continue my search for trout but there was no luck, the water near the shoreline wasnt the cleanest and the creek was a mess. Id assume the rain and the wind kept it stirred up. Well, a local who was crabbing this morning said hed been at it all morning and only had 14 crab and was wrapping it up and pulling his trot line in. And a buddy of his was too because of the dirty water.
