SBPR (River Road) Trout

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: South Branch Patapsco River (River Rd.)

When I discovered that the DNR had stocked the South Branch Patapsco River (River Rd.) on Tuesday, 10/11/22, I decided to buck rush hour traffic from Towson to Sykesville and see if I could catch some dinner before dark. I finally took my place wading in the river at 6:10 p.m. and tied on a 1/16 oz. black in-line spinner to my ultralight gear. Much to my delight I hooked a fat 12-inch rainbow on my second cast. I caught 2 more in quick succession as I stepped downstream several yards each time while casting across it. By 6:40 it was pretty dark, so I switched to a live worm that at least had some scent for the trout to home in on and caught my fourth rainbow. Not a limit, but enough to share a surprise fish fry with a couple friends living in nearby Eldersburg.
