Retirement Day

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Central
Location: Chesapeake Bay

It was the first day of his retirement and Scott accepted an invite from his now x-coworker, Captain Steve, for a day of fishing for Rockfish on the Chesapeake Bay. Pulling out of the Magothy we headed to Love Point and arrived at our destination just minutes after high tide. The plan was to troll deep, except for a single bottom bouncer, we let out all umbrella rigs with in-line sinkers of various weights. It didnt take long before the bottom bouncer bent over hard. Scott grabbed the rod and started pulling in the first of four fish, and about the time it reaches the boat the rod to his left got a pull down. Quickly I netted the fish, a 20 incher. I took the rod from Scott so he could grab the next rod, he landed a 23. Now Steve is reeling one in, and it is a barely legal 19 inches, and while debating whether or not to keep it, a 4th pull down! Its my turn, put it back on the water, this one feels much bigger, I yelled. I pulled in the catch of the day, a fat and healthy 24. Smiles, and high fives went all around. Now thats male bonding, and a great way to begin your retirement.
