Some Blue Catfish Fishing

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Mallows Bay

Today (10/29) I ran over to Mallows Bay for some blue catfish fishing with friend Bryan Dorsey. After talking last week about his goal to raise his species count, he had two fish I could help with, both catfish.

We were on the hunt for blue catfish and channel catfish today. He had already surpassed last years count and after today he sits at 38 species. He had also pledged to himself to not use live or cut bait. So we were casting chatter baits and small spinner baits. He caught six blue catfish on chatter bait and the channel catfish on a small spinner bait.

I caught 11 blue catfish, most on a chatter bait. But I was looking for a big fish. So I used cut menhaden on a tog jig. Catching the fish I was looking for. A 36.75 blue catfish. Estimated weight is 27lb to 30lb from what I can figure from estimate charts Ive seen.

Fun day fishing with a friend.
