My grandson Isaac asked to fish one day this week while on his spring break, of course I said yes!
Knowing the shad are running and that he didnt get the opportunity to catch any last year, I thought it a good choice to target them. We fished the upper Mattawoman, casting shad dart and spoon tandems. Isaac caught ten shad! I caught two blueback herring and 11 hickory shad. I was catching on both fly gear and conventional gear.
We left after two hours of fishing, grabbing some lunch then we fished one of the ponds at Indian Creek NRMA. I was looking for the elusive 11 bluegill, again. Only catching smalls. Isaac caught 15 bluegills, I caught 7.
And the weather, what a GREAT June day!, in April temperatures in the 80s!!!
