After several failed attempts for Put-and-Take trout this season, I gave it another try at the Upper Gunpowder River on the evening of 5/3/23.
My first cast of a short piece of nightcrawler produced a small "Native" Brown Trout, which I released after a quick photo. (At least I could say I caught my first trout of the year.) But what seemed an omen for a good session was mere fantasy during the next hour for me at multiple locations casting with different baits and lures, yielding neither nibble nor strike.
With dusk approaching I wanted to be sure to find my way back to the main trail amidst the chest-high overgrowth. But a sudden splash renewed my interest for "one last cast." Well, maybe it was 3 casts before I nailed this pretty Rainbow Trout, who jumped out of the water a couple times but waited to finally throw the hook over dry land!
