My Week (5/8 - 5/12)

Type: Nontidal and Tidal
Region:
Location: Multiple

Monday: I fished on St Marys Lake on 5/8, catching 7 largemouth bass and a very small pickerel. The biggest bass I caught was 18, others were a bit smaller to very small. The water was stained where it was wind blown against the shoreline and on the shallow flats and it was full of floating grasses too. I was using a 4 jerk bait, wacky rig and red square billed crankbait in 6-10 of water.

Tuesday: I fished in the rain on 5/9 for a few hours. I was fishing for largemouth bass at the Indian Creek NRMA pond. Catching four largemouth bass and losing a couple too. I was using a wacky rig, and red worms under a bobber.

Wednesday: I fished two locations. I fished out of Point Lookout searching for striped bass and speckled trout. I fished there 3.5 hours, catching six striped bass. After I saw a speckled trout caught by another angler I moved on to avoid crowding him out of the spot. My intent was to see if they were in yet and I got my answer. I left once the tide went slack (bite just stopped). The majority of the striped bass were in the mid 20s, one under and one that topped out at 34. I grabbed lunch before I fished the upper end of St Marys Lake. I ended up ny catching two very small pickerel (the last three outing there Ive caught at least one small 10 fish) must had been a good spawn for them 3yrs ago. I also caught seven largemouth bass. Most in the 10-12 range, catching most on a stick bait. One on a crankbait and one on a wacky rig.
There was a bass boat with three anglers on the lake. They werent catching, I told them to throw a watermelon wacky rig up against the shoreline and lily pads, I saw them at the ramp while loading out, they caught 17-20 fish.

Thursday: My plan today was to fish Point Lookout again and hopefully repeat my success yesterday and to hunt a few specs too. But the wind reports were WRONG. When I got there I saw small whitecaps in the inlet. SW/SSW winds pouring in there. So I took the 1.5hr drive over to Mallows Bay. Only to find the water very colored (brown) I did manage one blue catfish out near the wrecks. I saw a couple of other anglers there. One was bouncing small his off the bottom in the burning basin. He had a nice crappie, he did catch a couple of blue catfish too.
I talked to another angler, Ron, who had caught a LMB and he caught a snakehead too.

Friday: I fished Point Lookout, 6 striped bass, but I pulled off. I caught five cownose rays too and lost four of the baits. They were EVERYWHERE in the inlet. I was catching them on 3/4oz jigs with white or electric chicken 4 paddle tails. I then headed over to Smith Creek (St Inigoes). But no luck there. A buddy caught a 20 spec there that morning, he sent a photo. I then ended the day on St Marys Lake. 13 largemouth bass. And a dink pickerel. Catching on wacky rig watermelon and shallow driving crankbait.
