My grandson, Isaac, called yesterday (7/5) and asked about doing a bit of jug fishing. So I picked him up at 9 and we headed to Mallows Bay.
Dropping five jugs and a duck decoy with line, 2oz weights, circle hooks and cut bait over the gunnels of the kayaks we hooked up immediately. Catching 12 in short order. Biggest was a 30 fish.
We fished 2.5hrs and called it when the tide went slack and the bite dropped off.
Starting July 1st and running until Feb 28th you can jug fish in tidal waters. We use four foot of 30lb line, attached to plastic milk jugs, with a circle hook 18 from the end, with a 2oz weight. We fish with cut Alewife. And dont forget to put your DNRid# on each jug.
