My boyfriend Dave got me into fishing a little bit this season, and once I started catching some perch and sunnies, I really wanted to catch a bass! We fished July 1, late evening at Piney Run, and I hooked my first bass of the season, a 22" 4.5 pound largemouth. I was using a night crawler, on a light action rod, lined with 8 pound mono. When I first got the fish on, I didn't even know what to do with all the line ripping out of my reel so fast, so I tightened my drag and made sure to keep tension on the line. Dave jumped in to the water to make it a fairly easy net, then we snapped a few quick pictures, got the weight and measurement, and off he swam to grow a few more pounds for next time. Needless to say, this was an exciting catch, and I couldn't have been happier with my first bass of the year!
