Calvert Snakehead

Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: Lake Collusion

On 8/15 I fished a tidal lake in Calvert County. Very little action though. Only two bites, both were from snakeheads. One on a chatter bait the other on a beetle spin with a white twister tail. I was only able to get the small fish to the boat. The other (chatter bait) came out of the water, smiled then swam away.

I was catching them in 4 of water in the main body of Lake Collusion. This lake is basically a sheet pan. Average depth 4' or less. But it does have a few spots scattered over the lake that are 6/8'. There isn't any cover other than fallen trees along the shoreline.

Strangely enough I've only caught one snakehead off wood there. All the others have been in the body of the lake, 4' or so of water. Once hooked they sit in the mud, kinda get suction to the bottom. Yeah weird. And most are caught on a beetle spin with a white twister tail.
