I went hunting for red drum and cobia on Wednesday 8/23 out of Point Lookout with friend Billy Londeree. We trolled the ledges off Cornfield Point and Point Lookout (out by the tower). We didnt see any drum or cobia.
But the day wasnt a loss. Before Billy headed out to the ledge at Cornfield Point he took a few casts around and near the jetties caught a speckled sea trout.
Before I headed out to the tower off Point Lookout I took a few casts out at the mouth of the channel leading into the park and out at the lighthouse. I caught a bluefish and a 15.25 flounder at the channel. I then hit the old piling near the lighthouse and caught a trout.
Bluefish were breaking the water under birds out at Cornfield Point. But Billy didnt fish them, instead concentrating on trolling the point. I trolled the channel and around the tower. Billy joined in. No luck there. With the wind up slightly it made for uncomfortable situations. So we headed back in to fish around the lighthouse and next the channels jetties. There were no late morning bites.
