Yellow Perch Fishing

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Mason Springs

I fished Mason Springs today for yellow perch. I hadnt planned on fishing minnows today, but I couldnt catch on artificial. I tried shad dart, twister tail plastic, small jig tipped with fishbite.

So, I ended up running down to Lees Market, they have a small tackle section and sell minnows in small tubs too. (Located right up the road on 225)

AN ALERT HERE! Fishing minnows (fin fish) you will need to use a circle hook in tidal water.

The smallest circle hook I could find there was a 1/0. They actually worked! Catching 8, only one keeper though. I saw a few (30+) nice fish caught between several anglers. Id estimate most were 9-12 fish. From what I could tell they were caught on minnows too. If you go and its crowded, work your way down stream. Youll find a few bends in the creek and down falls that hold fish. Further down the creek narrows, all fish have to pass through there, and its a deeper section too.

My rig was a 1/4 oz weight on a small snap 10 up from the 1/0 circle hook. The larger minnows caught better, and easier to place on the hook. Letting the weight sit in the bottom.
