Trout Opening Day

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Little Falls

For trout season opening day, Saturday, March 30th, I got a very late start, arriving at Little Falls around 2:00 p.m. Most of the early crowd had left already as rain was in the forecast, and I also figured the lion's share of stocked fish had all been caught. But, ever hopeful, I drifted a worm through a "fishy-looking" run and soon was hooked up with a nice 15-inch rainbow. I fished several locations up and down the old Northern Central Railway (NCR) trail for 5 more hours in the off-and-on drizzle, but could only manage to catch one tiny fallfish about a half-hour before sunset. What a contrast between the beginning and the end of my day!
