Whenever I have only a small window in any given day to spend fishing I always head to Loch Raven, just minutes from my house. To maximize my efforts I strictly "run and gun", hiking the shoreline trails casting in-line spinners for pickerel. In years past this strategy almost always yielded at least one of those feisty toothy critters. But for reasons unknown, since my last pickerel in November of 2021, after dozens of outings at Loch Raven I have been skunked completely. That is, until Friday, April 12th. The "pickerel drought" still stands, but this 16-inch Largemouth Bass at least killed the skunk when he attacked my spinner from behind a lengthy submerged log - normally a springtime hideout for a pickerel. In Friday's rain and wind, I will take it!
