I have a tradition each year when the shad are running of numbering every cast I make during my inaugural trip of the season to the Susquehanna River. I want to mark the exact moment I catch my first shad. So, on Saturday, April 27th, wading into the river at Susquehanna State Park, I was super thrilled to feel that familiar jolt on my line after only the third cast. And to top things off, it was a double! I caught and released 6 more of those feisty hickory shad ranging in size from about 13 to 17 inches.
