Tiger Trout
Type: Nontidal
Region: Western
Location: Potomac River

On Saturday 6/1/2024 I was fishing the Potomac River where Millers Sawmill Road and Canal Road meet when I hooked into a 12” tiger trout. I am curious where this fish most likely came from and how rare are these fish?

DNR Answer: We see these now and then, which are a cross between a brown trout and a brook trout. Both species spawn in the fall and can fertilize each other's eggs. Maryland does not stock brook trout but West Virginia does stock brook trout.
