St. Mary's River

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: St. Mary's River

I fished with friends Zach and Brad on 8/3/24. Zach wanted to get Brad on his first red fish and trout. And Brads birthday is just around the corner.

Anyway, Zach asked about the fishing down this way because they were camping and fishing this weekend. He said I could jump on the boat with them if I liked. So I took him up on the morning trip.

Meeting them at 5:30 we set out. We didnt have to go far before we saw action on the surface. Casting into bait under attack is fun. I caught a small drum. We moved on though, the wind was up and blowing us into super shallow water. I suggested we fish in an area where I caught before. This is the same location Vadim and I fished earlier in the year.

It wasnt long before Brad was on, a nice 21.5 trout. His first. Then his second fish was a red drum. He was stoked!! His third fish was a keeper striped bass. The cooler was filling up.

We were catching fish on Popping cork, well I was. Also a 3/8 jig, with electric chicken or pink 4 plastics. In 2.-8 of water over grass. Catching at the bottom of the outgoing and the start of the incoming tides.

We caught 9 red drum, 2 trout, two 11+ perch and a single striped bass. Big drum was 24.
