Hickory Shad

I went fishing for the first time in 2025 on 4/9 and had good luck at Fletchers Boathouse in Washington DC. I was casting an orange shad dart from shore upstream of Fletchers Cove and fishing was slow at first but started to improve as the tide came in. Tide was very low when I started fishing. After awhile shad were hitting almost every cast including some nice size ones that pulled some line. Anglers fishing double shad dart rigs also did well. Day was cold and windy though sunny. Rain expected Friday might muddy the river.
