Weekend of Fishing

Type: Nontidal
Region: Eastern
Location: Mouth of the Tuckahoe / Upper Choptank River

Its always a good weekend when you can go fishing with friends and family. On Saturday, I was fortunate to fish with a fellow co-workers, Skip Collier, who is our boat captain at the Cooperative Oxford Laboratory. Skip and I were bottom fishing with worms at the mouth of the Tuckahoe River. We caught four channel catfish between 12 and 18 inches, two yellow perch and several white perch made for a good dinner on Sunday night. The attached photo is a picture of Skips large catch (only kidding, you have to have fun with your friends). Following Sunday dinner, my son, Tommy, and I fished the upper (and I mean upper) Choptank River just east of Goldsboro. Looking to catch a few sunfish with worms, I was pleasantly surprised when Tommy caught a 14 chain pickerel on his first cast (attached photo). We also caught eleven sunfish (blue gills and red-eared sunfish) (attached photo). The evening was topped off with Tommy catching a 16 largemouth bass all by himself (cast, hook set and landing) (attached photo). He was so excited shouting this is awesome and Im a good fisherman along the stream bank. His excitement brought back many of my own childhood memories. Hope others can find the time to go fishing with their family and friends. If you do, Im sure youll create some memories that will last a lifetime.
