Singing the Blues
Type: Chesapeake
Region: Southern
Location: Point Lookout

I fished with my friend Dennis Fleming on 9/22. It was a slow morning, only one striped bass off the jetty at Point Lookout. Well, a lizard fish too. Then a few small black sea bass out by the target ship. We waited awhile for the tide to move, which it really didn’t. The tide rose the water level but never flowed if that makes sense? We saw birds SE of the Target Ship and two boats working them. We headed over to take a look. We caught one fish on a 5” plastic then we caught the remainder of the fish off topwater baits. The wind stopped, water was flat and the blues were willing to eat on top. After a few chases of birds we figured out that the fish were still around and would come up ten feet or so to eat. They were in 22-24’ of water and suspended at around 10’. We caught 24 to 27 fish, all about 22 to 25” and weighing 6lbs. up to a bit over 7lbs.

Fun times!
