A Blues Kind of Day

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Southern
Location: Point Lookout State Park

I got a call from my buddy Dennis on Sunday 9/28 to fish on the bay Monday 9/29. I met Dennis at the ramp at Point Lookout state park at noon, we fished til 6:00pm.

Arriving at the middle grounds I took a cast with a Rapala xrap and hooked up right away, then a second fish and third. But that bite ended as quick as it started. Dennis did toss a topwater plug. But producing a single blowup w/o a hookup. So we went looking for fish. Once we spotted a fish here or there we’d stop and drift over them, casting one ounce jigs with five inch plastics, then bucktail jigs once our plastics were exhausted. We would wait until the bait touched bottom then slow rolling along them across the bottom.

It wasn’t until 5:00 that we started to see fish grouping up. We’d double more often then. There wasn’t any bird action, and very little water/tide movement (most likely due to the offshore low pressure systems we are currently experiencing). We caught an estimated 50 or so fish, 24-27” (5-7lbs).
