Kids Fishing Festival hosted by Port City Bass Anglers

Type: Nontidal
Region:
Location: Bynum Run Park

The Port City Bass Anglers hosted the annual Kids Fishing Festival on Saturday, July 16th, at Bynum Run Park. Over 100 kids were enjoying Saturdays great weather and hoping to catch one of the many stocked hybrid sunfish (courtesy of MD DNR and Dept of Juvenile Justice). Club members were on hand to assist the kids with tackle and bait, including first time angler Zack (see photo) who caught his very first fish. The Port City Anglers set up a casting competition, provided lunch for the kids and their parents, and gave door prizes throughout the day. The contest was divided into two age groups with a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in each age group. The winners received a fishing tackle package and trophy. The winner for the younger age group was Fitz Brock, age 10. Winner in the older age group was Devin Angleberger, age 14. Devin caught a nice 2+ pound catfish (see photo) to help him with his winning total weight.

I was there to represent DNR-Fisheries in support of our partnering with BASS Federation for the Youth Component of the Maryland Fishing Challenge featuring Diamond Jim. Fitz Brock was the lucky youth angler selected to move on to the final drawing for a mentored fishing trip. The finale will be held in conjunction with the Maryland Seafood Festival on September 10th at Sandy Point State Park.
